0xc0000428 on VM when booting VM after Patching.

Hi

So I installed a couple of patches on our Windows 2012 R2 Hyper-V host and everything seemed fine.

But when i rebooted a VM i got Windows Boot Manager error 0xc0000428 saying the "digital signature for this file couldn't be verified"

Turning off the VM and moving it to an unpatched host made the VM boot again.
Live migrated it back to the patched host and it ran fine, but if I restart it on the patched host i get the same error again.

Removed all the patches exept KB3173424 that isn't uninstallable. No luck.

Anyone seen something simular and has a fix ?

Virtual Switches in Different Environments Obtaining Production Environment IP Addresses

Hello,

The organization I work for has three environments: Development, Test, and Production.  Our IT workstations have three physical NICs (one for each environment).  When configuring a new RDS server yesterday, I was testing my machine to remote into from an external network.  Instead of remoting into my computer, I was placed on another user's desktop in another department.  Her IP was 192.168.1.128, my Production IP was 192.168.1.195.  I ran an ipconfig command and saw that my virtual switch for the Dev environment (my Dev VM was turned off) was pulling an IP address of 192.168.1.128.  Running nslookup for the .128 IP, it shows the hostname of the other user's desktop (as it should).

Any thoughts as to why my virtual switches are acting as if their IPs are in the Production environment?  Both my Dev and Test VMs were turned off at the time.  I am using Hyper-V on Windows 10.

Thanks,

Jonathan

Merging snapshots - calculating how large a VHD will grow

On 2008 R2: Say you have a 100GB dynamic VHD with 10GB used inside the VM (so the VHD itself is only 10GB), and took a snapshot, then created a 50GB file inside the VM. Then say you deleted the 50GB file inside the VM, so you had only 10GB being reported used in the VM again, then deleted and merged the snapshot. Would you end up with a roughly 60GB dynamic VHD after the merge, or a 10GB?

I understand the best practices or stated maximum space required for a merge being 2x of the AVHD, but I was curious how it works in your experience or "under the hood". I'm planning to do a merge this weekend with a similar scenario to the above - where a logfile grew to over 200GB, then I deleted it, and I wanted to know if it will grow the VHD by ~200GB, or if it's unlikely to.

Thanks for any thoughts.

Catastrophic Failure: Restoring Exhange.vhd (HELP)

"The Following error occurred while searching for the on-premises Exchange server:"

"No exchange servers are available in any active directory sites. You can't connect to remote powershellon computer that only has the management tools role installed. it was running the command Discover-exchangeServer -usewia $true -suppresserror $true -currentversion 'Version 14.1(build18.15)"

Environment;

Server1 (Primary(to be decommissioned))
2003SBS SP1
Running AD, DNS, DHCP
(really its just AD that is all I care about)

Server2 (Secondary(to be promoted to Primary))
2008R2 (will hopefully goto 2016 soon(tm))
Running Exchange, database store.

What happened;
Server1 needs to go, the though was to test a migration from server1 to server2. Server2 has a Hyper-V VM of exchange currently running fine, I had dragged a copy of Exchange.vhd and its differencing disk to a 2TB storage and moved it to a newly purchased exact hardware clone (except for NIC) of server2. After setting up 2008R2 on this lets call it (Server2-Test) non-production server and installing VM I get this brick wall that I have tried everything to fix.

I have already reinstalled 2003 SP1 on server1 (Server1-test) non-production server that I had spare laying around. Added the DC and AD cred's/ profiles.  Also reinstalled 2008R2 making sure I didnt miss any of the roles/features that Server2 had that Server2-test might not have had.

Nothing seems to work.

Please Help.

I have Windows Server 2012 R2 and I just created a VM with Hyper-V. In the Virtual Switch Manager, I created two switches: one external VM switch and one internal VM switch. The external VM switch is connected to the NIC1 on my physical server which is also the port that has the ethernet connected into. Any suggestions?

A little backstory that may be useful. I have one old DC, lets call it DC1. I am in the process of migrating over to DC2 (which is the server running windows server 2012 R2). I have so far migrated ADDS, DHCP, DNS, IIS. I turned off DHCP on DC2 because it was causing some conflicts. Would this cause any issues as to why I'm not getting connections?

Windows server 2012 R2 Single Hyper-v Virtual machine configuration

$

Hi all,

I found many articles about optimum solutions for complicated Hyper-v scenarios, but I couldn't find any for very simple single Hyper-v Virtual machine configuration. The Physical host is Windows server 2012 R2 with just one hyper-v role and 2 gigabit NICs , 2 RAID1 HDDs, and one 6 core Xeon processor. The guest will be the same OS and I need maximum resources to be used by it. SQL Server 2012 will be installed on the guest.

Any comment,suggestion is appreciated.

Error after creating win 7 VM machine in host server

I using Hyper-V Manager Version: 6.3.9600.16384 from last 1 year, there are lots of VM configured on it.

recently i have created one more VM with  windows 7 OS, after 1 day my VM Host server network suddenly got down

then i have restarted network service

after that i checked the event log and found below error

A storage device in 'HOSTNAME' loaded but has a different version from the server.  Server version 6.0  Client version 4.2 (Virtual machine ID 8EA16F07-F4E0-4681-818E-29B922194C9C). The device will work, but this is an unsupported configuration. This means that technical support will not be provided until this problem is resolved. To fix this problem, upgrade the integration services. To upgrade, connect to the virtual machine and select Insert Integration Services Setup Disk from the Action menu.

Please provide solution ASAP

What clients can I add to Hyper-V

Hello, I am looking to take one of my standalone workstations in my work and re-create it as a VM in hyper-v.

My question is whether or not I can use windows 7 pro in Hyper-V? Do I need to use a enterprise version or server version or will a standard pro license work?

Hyper-V VM disk management.

I have a VM and I created 4 additional virtual hard disks.  I created them as dynamic disks starting with 75GB. After adding them as SCSI hard disks on a virtual Windows Server 2018 R2 I opened disk management and brought all 4 disks online, initialized them, assigned them drive letters and volume labels so that I can tell them apart.  While still in disk management I right click any of the drives and there is an option to convert to dynamic disk.  Should I convert the disk under disk management or with they automatically grow as needed since I set them up as dynamic hard disks under Hyper-V manager?

Possible to lock some hyper-v features ?

$

Hi everyone,

I wonder if it is possible to lock features on hyper-v, like network settings ?

First, I will explain to you our configuration. Each user have the Hyper-v manager feature activated on their machine, but they are not local administrator.

In fact, I want to deploy preconfigured VM on user's computer, but I absolutely don't want that they could create new network card to access to our local network (that's why I don't put them on the Administrator Hyper-v group, because they will be able to change all the settings they want), indeed, by default, the network card put in place point to a VLAN out of our local network.

I have read that before W2012 R2/W8.1 it was possible with azman.cpl, to configure manually Hyper-v, but our users are principaly running W8.1/W10 OS.

So, can someone, please, give me some clues to solve our problem ?

I thought about redirect virtual network card flow with ACL on the switch, but it could be easier if it could be possible to lock features on hyper-v ^^

Sorry for my bad english by the way, i'm a french guy.

Thanks by advance. Regards,

KebabAuThon.

Find out who deleted the VM in Hyperv

Hi,

Kindly let me know where can we check the logs for VM deletion details and who did it in HyperV. I have checked event id 13003 and HyperV-worker and HyperV-VMMs logs, but didn't get proper information.

In 13003 event ID, shows that VMs is deleted from one SID (S-1-5-83-1-2063782822-1162780032-1510854323-830704), but this SID belongs to replication machine NT VIRTUAL MACHINE\7B02D3A6-9D80-454E-B3CE-0D5AF0AC0C00. what is the meaning of this, is it deleted by its Own or automatically? Kindly help me to find out the same.

Thanks & Regards,

Problem with boot system after conversion VM from VMWare 5.5 to Hyper-V 2012 R2

Hi

I've problem with converted VM: Windows Server 2008R2 and Windows 7.

I converted these VMs from VMWare cluster 5.5 (every VM have one virtual disk, vmware version of vm is 7).

When I run these VM on hyper-v I've got blue screen and error:

Technical Information:STOP: 0x00000007B (0xFFFFFF8800009AE7E8, 0xFFFFFFFFC0000034,0x000000000000,0x000000000000)

I use 5Nine V2V converter and Microsoft Virtual Machine Converter 3.1 and the same error.

In Hyper-V, VM have virtual disk (with system files) attached to IDE controller (0,0), generation of VM is 1.

How to solve this problem?

Should I reconfigure VMWare VM before proces of conversion?

Kind Regards Tomasz
