I have windows 10 setup on hyper-v and i cannot find the option to use all my monitors. It used to pop-up when connected to the VM, but i disabled it and now I cant figure out how to turn it back on.

Problems after DC move
OK, so we have two Win 2012 servers, running Hyperv.
One only has one host.
Simples, I will move that one into the same DC (same LAN in all DCs).
The Server starts and uses the correct WAN address, I can RDP in and do all as before. The VM ( Centos 5.6) will start and run fine.
But I have no network access from or to the VM, this is not FW related as the FW is disabled.
I have logged into the guest VM and can get no WAN access.
Any tips, or pointers to get this, once working, machine up serving again?

vlan issue
hi,
i want to setup small lab for testing, with hyperv and cloudstack.
i have two servers, windows 2012r2 hyperv role. i have two nic on both server. one nic is directly connected to other directly without router
now i want to setup vlan tagging option, for cloudstack hyperv networking.
for that i have setup nic teaming with one nic with default and created external switch with teaming nic.
now upto this everything works fine.
problem is if i enable vlan id with "2" and in vm also , then external switch and vms is not getting internet,

Ive been lucky enough to get hold of some decent lab kit and was looking for advice on how to set it up (as close to production as poss)
I have:
2 x Dell T620 with 6 NICs
1 x HP MicroServer Gen8 with 3 NICs
16 port Layer 3 switch
8 port Layer 2 switch
I was thinking about clustering the 2 T620 Hyper V hosts and using SMB 3.0 on Windows Server 2012 R2 installed on the HP micrsoservers.
Is it a good idea to team the NICs in the Microserver for performance ?
For my labs, I like to have separate VLANs in a vyatta virtual router so I can emulate different AD sites etc.
Any advice would be appreciated on this.

Hyper V Server 2012 R2 - Domain or Not ???
Hi All.
I have been messing around this weekend with Hyper V Server 2012 R2 and been having a tough time connecting to the server if the server is left configured as Workgroup.
We usually use VMware ESX i etc and I really want to give Hyper V a trial run.
I am just failing to unserstand Microsofts logic to have the Host server joined to the Domain.
After all surely your domain controller for the domain would be one of the guest machines on this very server.
How would you authenticate to the Hyper V server if the domain controller has not even started up yet ?
Any comments or experience on this would be most helpful.

Hyper-V Host Backup failure. 2012 R2 Host: VSS Error 0x800423f4, 2008 R2 VM:
I have a new Windows 2012 R2 Hyper-V Server host running 6 VM's. The host-based wbadmin (Windows Backup) seems to be running fine for all VM's except one. Backing up the server produces the following results for this VM running Windows 2008 R2:
- Host wbadmin log: Detailed error: ERROR - A Volume Shadow Copy Service operation error has occurred: (0x800423f4) The writer experienced a non-transient error. If the backup process is retried, the error is likely to reoccur.
- VM System Event Viewer: Event ID: 1, VDS Basic Provider, Unexpected failure. Error code: 490@01010004 (and also D@01010004)
- VM System Event Viewer: Event ID 58, partmgr. The disk signature of disk x is equal to the disk signature of disk x.
- VM: After a failed backup I see console messages about drives needing formatted. This is, from what I understand, part of the Hyper-V VSS backup trying to create VSS volumes on the VM.
I've tried:
- Rebooting the VM.
- Running the backup from different Hyper-V hosts (shared-nothing live migrations to move the VM).
- Making sure that Integration Services on VM are up-to-date.
The "problem" VM is running Active Directory, DHCP, DNS, Symantec Endpoint Manager, and Symantec Endpoint client. Before the backup occurs all VSS Writers are "Stable" with "No error".
Can anyone help me by pointing me in the right direction to try? I'd certainly appreciate it!

Unable to RDP to HyperV servers from outside the network.
Hello,
We have a Hyper V 2012 deployment on two identical Dell T320 servers. I am deploying a new RDS 2012 HyperV Virtual Machine to replace our 2008 Terminal server. Everyone can reach the RDS 2012 HyperV Vm (an all other virtual machines) just fine within the network. I configured the firewall for 3389 to the RDS server at 192.168.X.X but cannot connect to it. There is no Windows Firewall Active and RDP is set to allow.
I tried this with all the Hyper V virtual machines, none are reachable via RDP from the outside. However, i setup firewall rules to the Dell T320's for RDP and connect just fine.
What am I doing wrong?

Earth to Hyper-v: "It is a Wireless Adapter."
Getting an internet connection with a wireless adapter is trivial nowadays, and for most people a connection is enough.
However, the guest thinks the connection is Ethernet, which poses a problem for a subset of Linux users.
#iwconfig eth0 no wireless extensions. So, can we bind a USB device with Add Hardware in the vm's settings? No, that seems to only be possible with a usb HDD.

Options for installing Hyper-V inside VMware workstation
Hi ,
I am currently building a home lab to practice for the MCSE exams. Because Hyper-V is the main focus in MCSE, i want to use it instead of VMware workstation. My issue is that i have a laptop with Windows 7 OS and i know that Hyper-V is a bare-metal hypervisor. I thought about using a dedicated HDD partition for installing Hyper-V but i don't want this because i need my Windows 7 for ebook readin, internet access,..etc. Then i thought about installing Hyper-V inside Vmware workstation's VM but i am not sure if this is right. Installing Hyper-V inside a VM then creating VMs in Hyper-V (which is inside a VM already) is confusing and doesn't reflect real environments. I think it is sort of nested VMs but not sure if companies practice it in production.
My requirement is to simply use Hyper-V to create VMs to start labbing.
What are the best options?

How to Change Parent Path of .VHDX in an imported virtual machine snapshot chain
Unfortunately, I am so novice in using and managing Hyper-v
Recently , we faced a disconnection in our SAN link for a Hyper-v server and after reattaching the new drive letter was F:\
where
the old one was D:\ . Anyways, I've changed the default path for both
virtual machines and virtual hard drives in hyper-v settings. even
though the virtual machines did not work . Therefore, I've deleted them
all in hyper-v manager and recreated them each attached to its VHDX
file. all of them are working properly since , they do not have
snapshots . But one of them went wrong since it has 3 .avhdx files .
Then I've deleted the corresponding machine , and tried the following :
Note: fortunately, I've copied all the configuration , snapshots ,and virtual Hard drive files to a network shared folder
- merging them manually by using edit disk wizard did not work
- importing the machine from its original files keeps giving this error without starting up:
" Synthetic SCSI controller ( instance ID XXXXX ) Failed to power on with error 'The Chain of virtual hard disks is inaccessible . There was error opening virtual hard disk further up the chain. "
- after inspecting all the parents for each snapshot in the chain , they all go smooth ,but the VHDX gives this error:
Failed to get the disk information
failed to open attachment 'D\XXXXX.vhdx' Error: ' The device is not ready'
As I've noticed , that the last drive ( which is the base file spiceworks.vhdx) is giving the wrong path , even its path should be:
"F:\XXXXX.vhdx"
My question is there a powershell command ,a registry setting, or a third party to change this parent path to the right one.

Hyper-V Host OS looses connectivity to shared External Virtual Switch when subject to sustained data transfer
Hi Folks,
Just looking for someone to point me in the right direction to try and troubleshoot this issue. I have a problem with one of my Hyper-V hosts. The host is a DL380 Gen8 with an integrated HP 4 port 331FLR 1GB adapter (I believe these are made by Broadcom) and has Server 2012 R2 Std installed
Port 1 is attached to a Hyper-V External Virtual Switch which is shared between VM's on the host and the host's OS (Server 2012 R2 Std) which is functioning as a management network. The problem is that when a large amount of data is transferred to/from the hosts OS the interface appears to lock up and becomes unresponsive (RDP connection is lost, unable to ping, application stops transferring data). This occurs from within the host only, the VM's attached to the same virtual switch still have connectivity and can still reach each other and machines on different hosts.
I have managed to replicate the issue using Veeam Hyper-V Backup & Replication (taking backup from another host) and also Google Drive. In the case of the former the data was transferring at a sustained 850Mbps for around 2 minutes before the interface locked up.
Looking at the adapter status in Power Shell shows the interface is still up but it is unusable, the only way to fix the issue I have found is to reboot the host which isn't ideal.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Extensible Switch - Query
Hi, I am setting up a new Hyper-V cluster and have decided to try out the extensible switch. So instead of having all my NICs for various networks separated i have teamed 4 NICs into a single Extensible Switch. I have kept my iSCSI separate with 4 dedicated NICs.
I have created all my VNICs for management, cluster, migration and applied default QOS as required. I haven't created any VNICs for VM use (by following various tutorials) which seems to be normal, and my VMs can appear to connect to the Extensible switch.
Is this correct? Do I just use this extensible switch and the VMs will use the entire bandwidth while still giving the other VNICs their QOS levels when they require it?
Or should I still have separate NICs teamed for my VM Switch?
I would like them to all use the one extensible switch as if this proof of concept works i will move it to 10GB instead of 1GB.

After an unplanned restart some machines have no network communication. the settings remains, but can not communicate them from outside. After swapped between No connected and previous virtual switch the network started working. All others machines present no networks problems.
Virtual switch was set on a network teaming with 3 phisycal network cards.
Hyper-V host is up to date.
Are there some one who is experiencing the same as us? Any help will be appreciated.

Deploying Direct Access on a Hyper V guest
Hello there
Are there any issues or reasons for not installing the Direct Access role on a Server 2012 HyperV guest? The info I have found on this only refers to lab servers and not production servers. The plan is a single HyperV guest with running Server 2012 R2 on 8 gigs of RAM. I have read that there are potentially issues around the virtual NIC, can you expand on this if true?

i have instaled a software seimens step 7 plc programing and it needs to be activated using a usb
i can not figure out how to get my usb to show up in hyper v most of the info i find is about win 2012 server and that dose not really help me as i dont have that

Modify the maximum size setting for a VHD file
I want to simply modify the maximum size limit of a VHD file. Not the VHD file itself.
Essentially a previous employee set this number to 1.8T for the maximum size of a dynamic disk. It is currently only 600G on a 900G partition. I would like to change just the setting so that it can not expand past the total size of the partition it resides on, maybe a little less like 850G.
Again, not trying to shrink the VHD file, just change the setting of the maximum size.

Hyper-V host and all guests become unresponsive, event ID 153 fills system log
We have some Windows 2012 R2 Hyper-V with dozens of VM running legacy systems and some departmental systems (XP, Win2003, Win2008, Win2012R2). They had worked for years without any problem.
In last December, we approve the monthly Windows Updates in the guest systems. In the next day, our IBM x3650 hosts presented disk errors and hanged, losing the disk array after restarted.
The host system logs had these records on Windows event viewer:
- Megasas2 – ID 129 – reset to device, \device\raidport0, was issued.
- Disk – ID 153 - the IO operation at logical block address 0x… for disk 2 (PDO: \device\0000005d) was retried.
- Megasas2 – ID 11 - the driver detected a controller error on \device\raidport0
The systems running on HP DL160/360 were not affected. The problematic environment is IBM x3650 M4 HD 5460 configured to boot from internal LSI MegaRAID M5210e. We are using fixed VHDX.
All diagnosis made after reboot have no errors and the hosts work fine after reinstall until an updated guest is started. VM guests run normally in another environment.
With this, we have tried to reinstall the host system using all versions of LSI MEGASAS drivers that we can, with or without Windows updates in host OS. In all attempts, we have a server crash and disk array loss when a guest starts.
Has anyone experienced this problem? How can we confirm that this is a driver issue?
