Hyper-V NIC team, v-switch, VLAN, LACP question

Question: Two NIC teams or one?

Specifics:

I am considering two scenarios. The first because I want to control everything through software/logical means and the second because I think the first scenario is not Microsoft best practice.

1) Create one eight member NIC team using LACP/Dynamic hashing. Create multiple team NICs (tNICs), each on their own VLAN as required, binding the default tNIC (default VLAN) to a v-switch to be managed by Hyper-V. I would then use the other tNICs for the various management, storage, etc. VLANs that the host uses.

or...

2) Create two NIC teams, one for host traffic and one to be bound to Hyper-V. I do not like this as much because it does not allow bandwidth be be as dynamically used as the first scenario (in theory) since I have to provision the amount of physical NICs ahead of time. More chance to over/under subscribe either of the teams.

I know the second scenario is supported based on documentation, blogs etc. but I have not read anything about the first possibility.

Hyper-V backup Oracle VSS writer error VSS-00044

Hi.

I have a Windows Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V with a VM guest Windows 2012 installed. Oracle is installed in that VM and when I'm trying to run a Hyper-V backup I get this Oracle VSS error:

VSS-00044: Database in NOARCHIVELOG mode must be in a consistent state for backup.  
Cause : The database was open read/write or mounted after a SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE or SHUTDOWN ABORT.  
Action : Either mount the database in a consistent state or open it read-only to back up the database files.  
Additional info :
Oracle Database 11g Release 11.2.0.4.0 - 64bit Production
Oracle VSS writer version 11.2.0.2.0 Production
Error at line : 4576
Failure on PrepareForBackup event

What is best practice and how do I configure this setup if I want to keep the Oracle VSS writers. Should I configure something in Oracle or on the Windows Servers.

getting the error above on Hyper-v machine running windows 2012 r2  how can I find out the error message. I cannot access sage mode or normal mode. have also tried all other repair option and it can not be repair. the only section can be access is the command on the blue screen

Hi

We are using HP Proliant DL580 G6 Server Machine, Windows server datacenter 2012 R2 Operating System installed on the HP Server and Hyper-V Role has configured and created windows 7 VM, in that VM accessing that Physical machine USB Devices can't accessing.

Please post the solution for the above mentioned issue, how to access the Physical machine USB ports on Virtual Machine.

Hyper Virtualmachines automatically getting off

 We have 4 virtual machines (windows 2008 ) running on windows 2012 DC edition Hyper v server.All virtual machines are automatically getting off after the usage of 30-90 mnts.All the windows machines and hyper v servers  are not activated yet.

Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 - Acquisition of genuine ticket failed

We have been using Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 (the free, core edition) in a 3 node cluster and noticed the following error in the Application log:

HYPER2012 8208 Error Microsoft-Windows-Security-SPP Application 1/18/2013 10:00:14 AM Acquisition of genuine ticket failed (hr=0xC004C4A2) for template Id {67a81643-c828-3e62-341f-a5bd2a25048d}


In Server Manager, the server displays as "Activated" under the Windows Activation column.


Checking with slmgr /ato I get

Activating Windows(R), ServerHyperCore edition {guid-stuff} ... Error: 0xC004C003 The activation server determined the specified product key is blocked

Is this normal or do we need to pay additional attention about this ?

I have VM1 & VM2 connected to iSCSI Target for data storage, can that be replicated to a disaster recovery site?

Microsoft Virtual Machine Converter - Connection Isues

Hi, I am having trouble converting a VMWare ESXi and vSphere 4 Enterprise over to Hyper-V running on Windows 2008 R2 with WMI remote enabled.  I get to the 'Connection' step add the 2008 admin/password and a popup states "Could not establish a connection to the guest machine".   The user name and password supplied are correct?

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

2012R2 DataCenter

I had an issue with NIC teaming so I went back to a system image before adding Hyper-V. I broke the NIC teaming and added Hyper-V. I allocated one of my 2 NICs to Hyper-V. I setup c:\VM_Machines & c:\VHD as the Hyper-V directories.

What switch settings should I use?

When I used the default to load a VM Instance of 2012R2; It loaded and hung on the reboot. I had to reboot the host to clear the hang. I went through several attempts at VM Machine and it hung.

I made the following change to the Hyper-V virtual switch. I unchecked "Allow management operating system to share adapter" and now the VM Machine reboots.

Was this correct or should I have done something else?

C      Server with 2012_R2_DataCenter OEM Licences

I have configured  B and C Hyper V Cluster of 

My Requirement is

1) 1 Windows server 2008 R2 Standard Edition (For ADC)

2) 5~10 Number of Windows server 2012 R2 DataCenter Edition

3) 5~10 Number of Windows server 2012 R2 Standard Edition

Please suggest Licencing for above environment.

HyperV Replication Failing on one guest only how to diagnose

Hi

Thanks in advance for reading as this problem has me stumped.

I've got 2 x HyperV Host servers running 2012\R2 fully patched with local SAS R10 storage via a LSI SAS card.  One is the host for three guest servers (1 x 2012/R2, 1 x 2008/R2 with SQL and a 2003) and the other is used just for replication plus a domain controller guest.  Everything has been working fine since Feb 14 until last week when I had to shutdown both servers.  Since restarting the 2012 guest replication is working fine with a status of Normal but the 2008/R2 and 2003 guest machines both won't replicate with the status turning to critical almost immediately replication is started.  So far I've tried:

  • Deleting and recreating the replica servers
  • Updating integration services on the guests
  • Full Windows Update on hosts and guests
  • Checking for VSS errors on hosts and guests - there are none
  • Checked all event logs - can't find any sign of an error with a problem

None of this has plus numerous reboots has made any difference unfortunately.  As replication is working OK for one server (which is the biggest) then I'm pretty confident my hardware, switches and network are OK and all the diagnostics I've run also come back with no problems.  Plus, until the power down, all was working fine and it hadn't ever gone off-line for any guests.

So far I can't even figure out what might be causing this as I can't see anything in the event logs or find a way of running a diagnostic status report which might show what's causing the problem.  Can anyone point me in the right direction please?

Virtual Machine Load Balancing

I have two Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V servers running in a cluster and I have VMM 2012 R2 running in the environment. I want to setup my cluster so the VM's will load balance between my two hosts. How can I go about doing that? I've read that it's possible but I've been unable to figure out how to get the hosts to load balance.

Hello, I would like to have up to 10 guests on my machine all running windows 7 or 8 os and able to play minecraft or stracraft 1 maybe perhaps even stracraft 2 for me and some friends

 

I would have to do passthrough of my video card using remoteFX vGPU?

 

I currently have dual x5650, 48 gigs of ram, 1tb ssd, and an x58 x8 series supermicro mobo capable of vt-d

 

Also what graphics card is best suited for remoteFX vGPU?  Can I use a gtx 580 or above like gtx 680?  Or is ATI/AMD graphic cards better for this?

VM's resetting randomly

I have a 3 node Server 2012 R2 cluster and I'm seeing VM's randomly resetting and an error 1069 is logged in the cluster errors. Some of the VM's that have reset have older (Server 2012) integration tools but a number that have reset are up to date.

The VM's have been very stable on our Server 2012 cluster and have only started doing this since they were migrated across last week.

Hyperv booting to Preparing automatic repair automatically.

Hi All,

I have 160 GB internal hard disk and I have installed hyperv server 2012 r2 in it. While installation everything is fine, but after reboot, it automatically shows "Preparing Automatic Repair" screen and shows page for repair options. I changed my ISO file, burned it to USB and DVD too. I also have formatted my hard disk with active kill disk ISO to make sure my hard disk is completely free. Still the same issue. This is the fourth time I formatted my hard disk and same issue happens everytime. Can anyone please help me?

No network on host or client

Hi,

I'm running a VM with Windows Server 2012 in 64 bit mode. The host is a Windows 8.1 box. I have created an external network switch which connects to the wireless of my laptop.

Here's what happens when I boot the VM:

- The machine starts and connects to the network

- Network connection succeedes

- Host now loses internet connectivity, although IP settings seem to be fine

- When I troubleshoot the network connection (or ipconfig /release /renew), internet connectivity on the host is restored but connectivty on the client is lost

- Performing the same operations on the client causes the host to lost connectivity and the client to regain it

I can repeat that over and over, there is no situation in which both host and client have internet connectivity. I also tried removing the external switch, replacing it by an internal one and bridging that with my wireless. That has the same effect as I believe it's also the same thing hyper-v does.

IP settings on both the host and client seem fine, also do not change between connectivity and no connectivity. I have no further idea on where to look.

Hi everyone, I understand Hyper-V works with 2 host running replication between both machines. 

I'm exploring the option to add on 2 more host due to not enough resources. Would the 2 new host be running as another Hyper-V and is there any way to integrate with the current Hyper-V ?
