Hello
I have followed the "usual" way to build a pooled VDI desktop using Win7 or Win8 with success, but it fails when I use an image of Win Server 2012 as VM instead.
Am I overlooking something? Should I need to prepare the image in a different way? (Sysprep differently?)
Thanks
Hello, I have a 2012 R2 server as a hyper-v host, and a 2008R2 as a client. I attempted to give the client 40G ram (40960mb) however, the client is only displaying about 32G Ram available... can someone explain what I'm doing wrong?
in the server settings page...
hyper-v memory tab
and the servers task manager performance tab...
any ideas on why it's not showing the full 40G?

Hello,
We recently upgraded a server that's been in production for three years - it was running Server 2003. It's now running Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 with a Server 2012 R2 VM, but we're seeing degraded network performance - it has gigabit ethernet yet we're only seeing about 120mbps sustainable from it, yet it was hitting over 600mbps as a baremetal server.
Now the onboard network controller isn't fully supported in Server 2012 R2 - there are Microsoft inbuilt drivers, but Intel can't support it due to hardware limitations (it doesn't meet WHQL minimums for 2012 R2). So we've upgraded to an Intel i350-T2 which gives us both native support in '12R2 and SR-IOV (or so we thought) - SR-IOV is apparently our best option to get greater performance from network devices to the VM.
Unfortunately, however, SR-IOV isn't working - Get-NetAdapterSriov tells us "NoOSCSupport". Apparently there is an issue with OSC Handoff, but this seems to be an essentially undocumented issue as there is hardly any information available about it beyond the initial TechNet article - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj130915.aspx
I have attempted to speak to technical support from the mainboard manufacturer and they said if the feature isn't in their documentation then it doesn't exist.
So I'm trying to determine two things - if there is a way around the OSC Handoff limitation so we can enable SR-IOV or if that's simply not possible on this hardware (Asus Z8PE-D12X), and/or what other options we have to improve network performance to the VM?
Thanks for your help,
Trevor

Hello!
I have A Windows Server 2012 R2 with Hyper-V role installed. One NICs for all (I know that it is not very good but can't change)
In this setup I also have a 5 guests with Windows 8.1. Each of the guests have the following requirements:
1. Must have access to the Internet
2. Must be accessible via RDP from any place in Internet
3. Have access to file shares of each other
What is the best way to setup virtual network?
Hi,
Please let me know the WMI query to retrieve the IP of the Hyper-V VMs via Host.

Hello friends... I need some help to design my enviroment.
I have here, 12 webservers which have independent files. My intent is use the same files for all of them and use shared configuration from iis.
They are all virtual servers runing on hyper-v 2008 r2. How can i use the same files for those servers? I was thinking on network share but I dont know if its the best way to do this.
tried to use a passthrough disk on them but didnt work as i spected... theres any way to one server have write permission and the others just read and when other need to write something, the permission change from one to another?
Im kinda lost here...
Hello all,
In our environment we have recently migrated our VM from Windows Server 2008 R2 cluster to Windows 2012 R2 and after that we cannot take online backup of some guest with MS DPM 2012 R2 Update Rollup 1.
On every VM (Windows 2008 R2 based) the SCSI controller and the latest Integration Services are installed (the backup integration services is enable); all the following requirements are satisfied:
I have verified the VSS providers and all looks fine:

Hi
I have a server 2012 host running an Opteron processor, it's hosting about 4 guests at the min, 3 Server 2012 and a Linux. All fine, I'm using Windows backup to backup the guest VMs.
Today I restored one of the guest VMs to a small HP ML server 2012 with an Intel i3 proc I have. The process was
- Restore a copy of the VM to a file location.
- Copy the restored VM files to the HP server
- Import the VM as a copy of a VM
The VM copied over and started up fine. No errors on boot up and logged in without any hassle. My understanding was you couldn't run an Intel based VM on an AMD host or vice versa? Can anyone shed any light on whether this is correct or is the process I went through somehow removing this restriction e.g. the restoring as a copy is resetting the base hardware to that of the new host?
Thanks for any info

Can using VDI get around this?
hello
we are running a 3 server hyperv setup with windows server 2008 r2 datacenter.
we are using cluster shared volumes for these 3 servers.
the servers are connected to the storage via 2 methods... isci and a sas cable.
we created 4 cluster disks and this setup worked for about a year. all three servers see the csv... live migrates work.. among the three servers and its all good.
about three weeks ago.. 1 server just stopped seeing the csv drives/folder.
when u click on the csv folder in the local drive it freezes explorer... even though on that bad server all the validations check out.. no errors just a few warnings..
in the event viewer for the storage we see timeout to the cluster and then bad network path errors...
but network wise everything pings out and has no issues..
after multiple restarts and updating drivers and storage management stuff... it still 2 that works and this last one doesnt see it for no good reason..
can anyone help?

Kind of got myself into a bad situation I think. I run a single Windows 2008 R2 Server w/SP1 that hosts 5 VM's that host two Windows Server 2003 SP2 machines and the rest are 2008 R2 Servers w/SP1. On one of the 2003 VM's I was having issues with the mouse not being captured. I decided to reinstall the integrated services. The reinstall seemed to complete normally, but when it was done the mouse capture still did not work. So I rebooted just to check and still no mouse capture. So I went into add remove programs and uninstalled it. I rebooted and then noticed the problems that caused. The uninstall made the VM lose the SCSI adapter and the NIC. So after getting a legacy NIC added I was able to be past that issue, but no VHDs are accessible that were are connected to the SCSI Controller. When I try to install the Integrated Services, it gets part way through the "Updating Storport Driver" step and then throws this message: [ (X) An error occurred: One of the update processes returned error code 61658.] This machine is our Active Directory (Domain) Controller. Again to mention, this is only machine out of the 5 that is having this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
PS: None of these are installed using Beta or RC's versions of the OS, the Hyper-V server and the VM's have all been in place for 2+ years working fine.
Thanks
Update: A friend of mine looked things over and found a vmg...log file that shows the problem is when the Integrated Services install try's to run the a KB that fails to installed: (KB943295). So I will investigate. But I did get the server up and running again by adding a legacy network adapter and moving the two VHD files that were attached to the problem VM's SCSI controller to the VM's IDE controller. So a band-aid I know but at least I was able to get 41 users back working after 7 hours of pulling out my hair! I do need to know I have this VM functioning 100% as it should so I'll continue to work on it.Hello all! I have (3) Hyper-V 2012 R2 hosts and I with one I cannot connect to any of the guests via the Hyper-V Manager console. I needed to get into the settings of one of the VM's to remove an ISO but I am getting the following message:
I am using domain admin credentials when I start Hyper-V Manager. I can connect with no problems to my other (2) hosts. I can also RDP into all of the guest and they are all running correctly. I have restarted one of the guests and I still cannot connect to its console. I have searched the forums and see that there were similar problems in Server 2008 R2, but no solutions for Server 2012 R2. Nothing in the event logs to indicate why I cannot connect either.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Anthony
Hi
At work we use a database client called SAP, for timesheet, maintenance logs etc.
To access this application (SAP) we need to use computers on a domain, which we are charged $6000 yearly per. computer.
To reduce this cost, we want to set up a server running windows server 2012 (for centralized storage, web applications etc), with a virtual machine running windows 7, that is part of the domain, and having access to SAP.
What we then would need is the ability to remotely log on to the virtual machine and run SAP, easy enough..
But the problem is that we are 15 people who need to do this at the same time.
Is this possible? And is Hyper-V the right way to go?
The server will be running with two network adapters, one for the office network, and one for the virtual machine which connects it with the domain.
He guys,
I use hyper v to build images and my hyper v terminal has run out of space and I can even delete snap shots. If I do it removes it from the tree but doesn't free any space.
Is their away to urgently free up space. I really have nothing else on the machine apart from hyper V and a few checkpoints.
Thanks
