Hi

I just installed windows 8.1 on my laptop but when I want to connect to the internet through WIFI or Ethernet cable, the browser says you are offline. I tried chrome, safari, IE, waterfox and etc. but none of them worked and they all displayed the same problem. so I decided to troubleshoot the network by windows wizard but after that this message occurred: website(www.microsoft.com) is online but isn't responding to connection attempts.

I just should add that none of my other devices face this problem and also this computer worked properly with windows 10.
please help!

With Error Messages:

Error (415)
Agent installation failed copying C:\Program Files\Microsoft System Center 2012 R2\Virtual Machine Manager\agents\I386\3.2.7510.0\msiInstaller.exe to \\HyperVCluster.MGMT.COM\ADMIN$\msiInstaller.exe.
The network path was not found

Recommended Action
1. Ensure HyperVCluster.MGMT.COM is online and not blocked by a firewall.
2. Ensure that file and printer sharing is enabled on HyperVCluster.MGMT.COM and it not blocked by a firewall.
3. Ensure that WMI is enabled on HyperVCluster.MGMT.COM and it is not blocked by firewall.
4. Ensure that there is sufficient free space on the system volume.
5. Verify that the ADMIN$ share on HyperVCluster.MGMT.COM exists. If the ADMIN$ share does not exist, reboot HyperVCluster.MGMT.COM and then try the operation again.

Warning (10444)
The VMM management server was unable to impersonate the supplied credentials.

Recommended Action
To add a host in a disjointed domain namespace, ensure that the credentials are valid and of a domain account. In addition, the SCVMMService must run as the local system account or a domain account with sufficient privileges to be able to impersonate other users.

Those are below where I try so far but still not luck, I've install SCVMM in DNS machine and open without problem and able connect to other machine(non-cluster):

1. I've disable all firewall in both DNS server and cluster machine and register domain connection from cluster machine to DNS machine.

2. Create a share of C:\Windows (where C:\ProgramData) in cluster to allowed DNs write those settings on that folder.

Hopefully someone could help me upon this problem. Thanks a million.

Virtual switch interferes with NIC

Hi

Windows Server 2016 Standard host. During adding hyper-v I chose to establish a virtual switch from the server's single NIC. After server is rebooted it turns out a number of features in the server's NIC are un-selected including IPV4. One effect is that server is inaccessible from outside.

My question is what is the problem here and what is the proper way to create a hyper-v to host Windows Server 2016 + Exchange 2016 so the hyper-v based setup (Windows Server + Exchange) gets good quality network connection?

Thanks

NTFS VS. REFS

Hello everybody,

When using an external SAN (Such as NetApp or EMC) with Hyper-V 2016 - Is there a clear reccomendation to use REFS instead of NTFS? Are there any support issues we should be concerned about? Are there any clear guidelines from Microsoft about this?

Thanks is advance to all the repliers.

Is there free version of server hyper-v 2016 like hyper-v core 2012 R2?

I haven't found a clear answer but is there a free version of Hyper-v Core like 2012 R2 Hyper-v Core?

Hyper-V Replication error after upgrading to Windows Server 2016 ("Access denied

$

I have a Hyper-V test environment with two Hyper-V hosts. Each Hypver-V machine hosts a few virtual machines and both hosts are replicating the virtual machines to each other.

This setup was running just fine with no errors on Windows Server 2012 R2. To test we upgraded both machines to Windows Server 2016. The upgrade itself was running without causing any issues. But now the replication - which was working just fine - did stop working. All VMs report a Replication Health state of critical as no replecation cycle runs successfully.

When resuming the replication I see three errors in the event log:

  • Replication operation for virtual machine 'vm1' failed. (Virtual machine ID xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx) (Primary server: 'm1.dom.local', Replica server: 'm2.dom.local')
  • Hyper-V suspended replication for virtual machine 'vm1' due to a non-recoverable failure. Resume replication after correcting the failure. (Virtual machine ID xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx)
  • The description for Event ID 32022 from source Microsoft-Windows-Hyper-V-VMMS cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.
  • If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event. The following information was included with the event:
    vm1
    xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx
    %%2147942402
    0x80070002

When enabling a new replica of a VM Hyper-V shows these errors:

Hyper-V failed to enable replication.
Replica Server failed to authorize the connection.

Hyper-V failed to enable replication for virtual machine 'vm2': General access denied error (0x8007005). (Virtual machine ID xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx)

Replica server 'host2' failed to authorize the connection. Check replica server for appropriate access permissions.

What irritates me the most is that general nature of these errors, remember everything was working until after the upgrade to Windows Server 2016.

Does anybody know of any needed configuration changes when upgrading Hyper-V hosts from Windows Server 2012 R2 to Windows Server 2016?

Any help is highly appreciated.

Hyper-V Replication Failover testing has caused strange Microsoft Virtual Disks to be created - how to safely delete?

$

Hello,

I was experimenting with the Hyper-V "Planned Failover" functionality, from a primary VM to its replica on another machine.  One of the tests I did was doing a Planned failover, canceling the planned failover, and then removing replication altogether.  I'm not 100% sure if this is the cause of what I'm seeing, but it seems the most likely.

What I'm seeing is these mysterious F and G drives, which I AM 100% sure are not actual physical disks:

The size of the G: drive is EXACTLY the size of the virtual machine hard disk that I was testing in the Planned Failover testing I mentioned prior.

The virtual machine in question is safely running on another machine, and I have deleted the virtual machine replica from this machine (Using the Delete Virtual Machine functionality in the main Hyper-V management screen), but the virtual hard disk still is hanging around - I can't delete it.  It's in the default Hyper-V replicas folder, and this is what I get when I try to delete it (it's a virtual dynamically expanding disk that has 35 GB of content, but has a set max size of 127 GB):

looking in the Server File and Storage Services section, which I'm not terribly familiar with, I see this:

Same picture, but cropped for better resolution in browser

How do I safely delete the F and G volumes, and delete the currently undeletable .VHDX file?  And does anybody know what causes this nonsense to happen?

Windows Server 2016 Hyper-V does not has Integration setup disc VMGUEST.ISO

I started to work on my server migration project 10 days ago.  For the best result, I converted the physical server into virtual machine first, then migrate it to the new Windows Server 2016 Standard (with desktop GUI).  The old server is Windows Server 2008 domain controller.  After I copy the VHD and set up as virtual machine in the Windows Server 2016.  In Hyper-V Manager, after I started up and login the server, there is no "Insert Hyper-V Integration Service Disc" option in Action menu.  I search but not found C:\Windows\System32\vmguest.iso .  All Windows updates are applied as of today, included KB3206632 (Dec 2016). I set up another Windows 2016 Server with Hyper-V role, the result is the same.

Since the virtual machine is Windows Server 2008 domain controller, I cannot start it up successfully without install the Integration Service disc.  At the end, I re-installed the computer with Windows Server 2012R2 with Hyper-V to do the migration.

RemoteFX on Client Hyper-V Windows 10 Pro with Windows 7 Guest

Hi all,

What I'm trying may not feasible, but I thought I'd ask here in a last ditch effort. I've exhaustively searched everywhere for a solution to my problem, but nothing has worked for me.

For some background:

Host OS: Windows 10 Pro

I've installed all the Hyper-V components and Configured RemoteFX for the Hyper-V Manager as well as the Guest OS.

Guest OS: Windows 7 Pro SP1

Guest OS has been updated to with RDP 8.1 protocol support.

I'm able to remote in fine without RemoteFX device installed on the Guest VM.

When I install it and reboot, RDP hangs on `Estimating Connection Quality` and then I receive this error:

"The remote session was disconnected because there were network problems during the licensing protocol."

I have tried multiple installs and many different suggestions by others with similar issues to no avail.

Experience settings are set to `Lan/10Mb/s` etc..

I've installed the latest version of the integration tools.

It appears to work correctly with a Windows 10 Guest OS, but I'm needing to use Windows 7 in this scenario.

From what I've read, this configuration SHOULD work.

Can anyone shed some light or at least point me in the right direction?

Much Appreciated!

Edit: I just realized this should probably be in the Windows 10 Virtualization Subforum -- I'm not sure if I can move the thread.

Virtual Switch Backup

Hi All,

I'm planning to configure a backup solution for hyper-V VM's. I have tried to backup hyper-V host configuration details like virtual switch details, VM's, etc using in inbuilt windows system backup. But it fails to backup hyper-V virtual switch configuration details.

Is there any way to backup my virtual switch configuration details along with VM's?

How do I install the latest .net framework from Windows Hyper-V's command line?

$

Hi,

I am new to Windows Servers. I rented a dedicated server that came with the option of installing Windows Hyper-V at no additional cost. The installed version is Windows Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 (64bits)

When I remote desktop connect to it, I see only two command line windows open: a regular command line, opened as Administrator, with Windows Powershell capabilities. And a Server Configuration command line window. No GUI, no Start button, nothing else.

I tried to install the latest version of UniTrends Free, and it told me that I needed to first install the 3.5 version of the .NET framework.

I was able to download that version of .NET framework to my local computer, but I have no idea how to upload it to the server. Nor do I have any idea how to download it from Microsoft's web site directly to the server.

Civilized operating systems such as Linux have the curl command which enable their happy users to download packages directly from the internet by supplying the URL of where to find such packages. Is there such an option in Windows Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 ?

If not, what options to I have ?

I watched one introductory video on YouTube about Hyper-V, but the presenter starts by showing the Server Manager GUI. I don't seem to have that. I typed ServerManager in the command line mentioned above, but I got an error message indicating that Windows did not recognize such command.

Once again, please keep in mind that I am using a free version of Windows Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 (64bits)

The same company that I got my dedicated server from charges $25/month for a standard Windows Server 2012 edition, but is not charging me anything (other than my sanity) for the version that I have.

Thanks in advance.

Basic Question on Hyper-V Cloning

$

I have been tasked with deploying Windows 10 on Hyper-V on Windows 10 Enterprise for a small group of testers to use to test Office 365 environments. I ma fairly new at this.

My predecessor had created a USB drive which contained the following:

1.  Windows 7 Base Image (sysprepped)

2.  An unattend.xml file

3.  An Executable that basically starts Batch Script which in turn starts a PowerShell script.

4.  A folder containing a PowerShell and Batch script

The PowerShell script is pretty great:

It does a bunch of checks (usb drive name, proper cred's, windows 10 installed, verifies naming scheme with company policies) before checking for hyper-v and turning that on if missing.  It then creates a modified version of the pc name based on computer script is run on and adds VM.  Then is copies the template hard drive (#1 above) and the unattend.xml.  It then adds the user credentials provided by user to the unattend.  Next it mounts the hard drive and copies the modified unattend, and then dismounts drive.  A virtual switch is created, the hard drive is renamed according to naming standards, and the vm is created and started.  It works really, really well for the Windows 7 image.

I am trying to convert this to do the exact same thing for Windows 10 and having issues.

I have a VM that is set up like I want and I sysprep it. I need to copy a VHDX file, but it seems to me that a avhdx file is created.

Where is the basic directions for doing this located?

Ownership of cluster disk 'Quorum Disk' has been unexpectedly lost by this node

Hi

2 fysical hosts running Windows 2012r2 with all windows updates/hyper-v patches.

Today i updated both host servers with newer broadcom nic drivers. 2 nics are used to iSCSI and 4 nics for all other hyper-v traffic. Before updating the first server, i drained all rules, so the second server had all guests running.

Updated nic drivers, rebooted, undrained all roles and then drained the second host server. Same procedure.

After both hosts was updated with new nic drivers and running normally, I noticed all my guest (both windows and linux) had rebooted. Just like if i did a hard reset from hyper-V.

This has not happened before, where I live migrated machines.

Any idea why the below happened?

Host2 Eventlog when host1 server was paused:
Cluster node 'Host1' was removed from the active failover cluster membership. The Cluster service on this node may have stopped. This could also be due to the node having lost communication with other active nodes in the failover cluster. Run the Validate a Configuration wizard to check your network configuration. If the condition persists, check for hardware or software errors related to the network adapters on this node. Also check for failures in any other network components to which the node is connected such as hubs, switches, or bridges.

Hyper-V Replica creating files .vhdx.tmp on the replica server. what is it? can I delete?

I have Hyper-v replication enabled and on the replica server some files with the VHDX names that I currently have are been duplicated but with the extension VHDX.TMP "myvhdx.VHDX.TMP".
Can I delete them?
for what they are needed?

I did search across the web and didn't find much about the issue, also on msdn there is no reference about .vhdx.tmp file types.

SR-IOV active on VMs, even though get-vmhost.IovSupportReasons reports {OK}

$

One of our servers (HQ DL580g7, using Emulex OCe14102-UX Nic) has recently begun failing to make SR-IOV active for VM's assigned to the applicable vSwitch. This had been working in the past, but we did not notice when it stopped working  to have a clue what event has triggered the failure.

This server is in a cluster with 2 other identically configured servers. We can live-migrate a VM from that server to either of the other two and SR-IOV becomes active for it on the other servers.

(get-vmhost).IovSupportReasons reports {OK}, and (get-vmhost).IovSupport reports True.

But a VM configured to use SR-IOV on the host still reports it is using VMQ. What else are we missing?
