What happens when a VM with 2012 Integrations Services migrates to a 2008 R2 Hyper-V server?
Hyper-V Replication Question
Hello,
I just completed watching some YouTube videos and reading some helpful websites but still had a quick question. I have a .110 network in LocationA and a .60 network in LocationB.
Both locations use static IP addresses. I can ping both locations from each other. If I want to replicate a VM from the .110 network or LocationA to the .60 network which is LocationB would this be possible since both locations have different networks? If
I want to replicate from the .110 network, would my .110 network settings on the VM still be configured on the VM in the .60 network? If this is the case then when I turned on the replicated VM it would not be able to join the network without modifying the
NIC settings. I was hoping someone could explain this process a little better or more in-depth so I have an idea of what I'm doing.
On a different note as long as your two host servers are Server 2012 R2, can you replicate Server 2003 and Server 2008 systems or is it only for 2012 R2 VMs? Any and
all information is helpful. Thank you!

Hyper-V Replication
Hi
I have recently setup Windows 2012 R2 Hyper-V replication for VM's in our Dubai Datacentre to replicate to our UK Datacentre. We have a 10MB MPLS link with around 200ms latency. I have the following question:-
VM1 - Has one 38GB Fixed VHDX file with 30GB used
VM2 - Has one 38GB Fixed VHDX file with 15GB Used
Would VM2 replicate quicker than VM1 because there is a large amount of white/unused space?
Thanks in advance for any comments

Hyper-V vSwitch external connection not working when connected to 100mb switchport
I added 2 new servers to my existing Hyper-v 2012 server core failover cluster and there are many physical network connections on these servers. One of the network connections on the new servers goes to a switch that doesn't have any additional 1gb connections and only has 100mb ports available. The existing servers are connected to 1gb ports and they work fine. The new servers are connected to the 100mb ports and when the host is setup with an IP on that network, I can ping other devices just fine but when I setup a vswitch connected to this external network adapter and share it with the host, I can ping between a Guest VM and the host but I can't ping on the external network. So it appears that a Hyper-v vswitch doesn't autonegotiate with an external network connection that is set for autonegotiate on the switch but limited to 100mb. I switch the cables between a server that ha 1gb connection put it into the new server and it communicates just fine but the old server won't communicate on 100mb port.
Does anyone know how to setup the vswitch external network connection so that it will communicate on a 100mb external network?
Trunk mode vlan to a VM with 8 vNIC's - targetting one specific vNIC
Hi all
I've popped a question into the Powerhsell forum this morning, and realised it may have been more suitable in Hyper-V section due to the nature of the question. Apologies if dual posting is not the done thing.
My original question can be seen here: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/scriptcenter/en-US/5b12e416-ffc9-4391-b3f1-91fdb192f11a/hyperv-trunk-mode-to-vm-how-to-target-a-specific-virtual-nic-using-powershell?forum=winserverpowershell
Essentially, my question is around a VM that currently has 8 x vNIC's, but needs to communicate over 9 x vlans at present. I have attempted the following command in a test environment, but I can't see how this would comms over a specific vNIC; it looks like its a global command to the target VM:
Set-VMNetworkAdapterVlan -VMName test1 -Trunk -AllowedVlanIdList "1-5" -NativeVlanId 6
Is there a way to target a specific vNIC on a VM with the above command at all, or is there a better way to enable trunk mode to the intended VM please?
Thanks

Switched Off by Virtual Switches
I have two 2012R2 Standard Servers with two VMs (same OS as host), one as a replicate server. One VM is Web, the other SQL 2008R2. There are twenty clients accessing the SQL Server via web services. Little or no direct access to SQL Server. The hosts have 4 1GB connections into a L2 Switch (Cisco 3750 1GB 48 ports) and two 10Gb connections unused. The SQL Server has a db on a VHDX disk stored on a SAN that requires TBs of storage. The clients have two 1GB ports running W7. Doesn't appear Intel NIC teaming has any bandwidth affect.
I want to maximize throughput between the clients and the SQL Server. Should I team the 4 ports on the hosts system into one vSwitch? Should I dedicate a host port to each VM (SR-IOV)? Should I create an internal vSwitch between the Web and SQL Server VMs? Can the 10Gb ports be used back to back between servers for something? Both VMs run on the same server. Doesn't appear to be CPU or memory limited. But, should I move one to the replicate server solely for network considerations?
I know its a lot to ask, but any opinions are welcome.
Can't create a Virtual Machine on new host - Error (2915)
This error is appearing when a Virtual Machine is created from scratch, or from a template. I've tried all of the recommendations I can find. All updates are in place, VMM reports agents are current, server is "OK". VMM Agent is running. Rebooted many times.
Error (2915)
The Windows Remote Management (WS-Management) service cannot process the request. The object was not found on the server (xxxxxx).
WinRM: URL: [http://xxxxx:5985], Verb: [GET], Resource: [http://schemas.microsoft.com/wbem/wsman/1/wmi/root/virtualization/v2/Scvmm_EthernetSwitchPortInternalSettingData?InstanceID=Microsoft:Definition\1f59a509-a6ba-4aba-8504-b29d542d44bb\Default]
Unknown error (0x80338000)
Recommended Action
Ensure that the VMM agent is installed and running. If the error persists, restart the virtualization server (xxxxx) and then try the operation again.
This error can also happen due to an older version of the VMM agent on the virtualization server. Ensure that the VMM agent is upgraded to the latest version, and then try the operation again.
Hyper V hosts with Cluster Shared Volume do not provide Shared VHDX ability
Hi there, i've configured a pair of Hyper V hosts (UCS B230 M2) with SAN-Boot and access to a Shared Fiber Channel LUN.
No matter what I try, when I add a SCSI Adapter and one VHDX virtual disk to a VM, the option for "Advanced" never shows up therefore I can not share the VHDX file between another VM, which prevents any VM based clustering from working (IE: Clustered SQL server)
Here are the settings I have configured:
-----------------------------------------------
The LUN has been formatted with NTFS
The Hyper V hosts have been configured as a Windows Cluster with an IP address and the Fiber Channel LUN configured as a Cluster Shared Volume
I follows the guides below
Create a CSV
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn265980.aspx
Create a shared VHDX
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn282283.aspx
----------------------------------------------
Further details:
Two HyperV server core hosts built
Both joined to AD
Both joined to a Windows failover cluster
One 2TB Fibre Channel LUN presented from an EMC VNX array to both hosts
LUN formatted as NTFS
LUN created as a Cluster Shared Volume
Cluster Shared Volume present on both HyperV hosts
VM created within the Cluster Shared Volume
VM Booted up and Windows 2012 has been installed
VM gracefully shut down
Through the HyperV Manager, going in to VM settings, create a SCSI adapter, create a new VHDX file inside the CSV, the “Advanced” option for the VHDX is not present, therefore the option to make the VHDX file shared is not available
I have followed all steps in the Microsft Technet pages to create a CSV and a VM with Shared VHDX
I’ve cleared all settings and restarted multiple times, but this option is not present

windows 2012 Hyper-V
Hi All,
we have windows 2012 Hyper-V (in clustered environment) in place on have few guest machines, one of the guest machine (guest machine is windows 2012 R2) went down unexpectedly two days before then we started it manually.
on guest machine we have found event id 41 after searching in the net we got the below article describing the issue.
http://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2028504#method3
on the same host machine rest of the guest machines working fine without any issues.
My query is below:
Is any event id generated on the hyper-v host when the guest machine shutdowns unexpectedly or graceful shutdown.
Please suggest
Windows Server 2008 R2 Printers Stop Sharing
Hi,
We have a Windows Srv 2008 R2 installation which is our print server. We have noticed that everyday for the last few days at approx 11:55am that people cannot print and also lose the ability to search for printers. To fix the problem we have to reboot the server.
I have looked in the event viewer but cannot see anything that would suggest a fault.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Schedule Snapshots Rotation
I have two Hyper-V servers running Replica feature, it is working great, but it only protects me from hardware failure.
Now I want to have snapshots enabled for quick rollbacks (and full backups for more restoring options, but that's for later).
I found this script which describes how to schedule a snapshot each 7 days: https://support.managed.com/kb/a1872/how-to-automatically-rotate-hyperv-snapshots.aspx
From what I understand, it will rotate the Snapshot each 7 days, creating a new one and deleting the previous... but I am looking for something more complicated.
What I really wanted was having a snapshot each 7 days, just like that example, but keeping the last two weeks, and also have a new snapshot daily. So I would always have three separate snapshots instances (2 weeks old, 1 week old and "yesterday"). If I notice performance degradation, I will only keep 2 snapshots (1 week and 1 day old).
Does anyone know how to do it?
Thanks,
Rafael

Updated Hyper-V 2012 R2 Images
Hi, I want to test Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 in a Lab, with multiple installations (for clustering), the question is:
Microsoft have an Updated Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 ISO image (with Update 2/3 integrated) ? Or I have to download all updates from Windows Update for each Hyper-VServer 2012 R2 Host ?
Excuse my english, please.
Highest performance host-to-client I/O?
Is there any documentation available explaining how to hook into Hyper-V for high-performance bulk I/O between the host and the client? I would prefer as little overhead as possible... ideally this would be a standard API to hook into (even nicer if this could be user-mode on both client and/or host).
So far, it looks like the standard approach is for the client to use the serial port that the host software can then open as a named pipe. I did find mention of problems with this methoda few years ago. Also, I am not sure if this can match the I/O achieved by something like Guest Services file copy.
Thanks in advance for any time invested in a response!
