Hyper-V Makes my network devices too slow or out of order

Hi
I have a HP DL380G8 Server (32 cpu+ 192GB of RAM)
Windows server 2012 R2 on base and installed 7 Hyper-V machines with windows server 2012 R2 too.
I set all my business on this solution on 7 different Hyper-v servers.
One is AD-DC and DNS and each other server has own tasks.

My problem is after running this solution I have network issues. after about 2 days, some of my other network devices such as Access points stop working!!! or become tooo slow and when I shut down 3-4 of Hyper-V machines (or unplug network cables of server) they start working again (Until plugging cable in).

- I added Hardware of any Hyper-v (4 CPU and 8GB of RAM each one)
- I changed network adapters to Legacy NA
and still problem remains.
Please Help me. I did a huge risk on my job safety by using Hyper-v.

Internal and external switches on server 2012 r2

this is driving me nuts.

I have a vm with an internal and external switch.

I am trying to get backups to route to the host machine using the internal switch only.

I've gone all over priorities and the routes are all fine but the data will constantly go over the external switch.

If i disable external switch traffic goes over internal switch just fine.

I've read about the automatic detection of least cost routing on the internal switch but just can not get it to run correctly.

please help

1- evict one node from the fail-over cluster.

2- install clean win 2012 data center.

3- add it to the cluster a gain.

4- move VMs to new win 2012 server.

5- evict another node and so on.

Is there any thing wrong in this scenario ?

Hi All,

Could you please help me in  understanding regarding VMWare Provisioned Storage. I am usingThick Provision Lazy Zeroed  for all of my VM's. But what I don't understand what eversize I have setup for a VM inProvisioned Storage its showing double. i.e.

This machine has 400GB Thich Provisoin Lazy Zeroed but its showing 893.81GB in Provisonied Storage because of this issue my datastores are nearly full. The actual disk space I've allowed to the VM is 667GB. But if i caluculate the used storage its 1035GB. Confused as how it can over grow while using Thick options.

Please help.

Thanks

Hyper-V 2012 Host Freezes at boot when virtualization enabled

Hi All,

I'm trying to install Hyper-V Server 2012 onto a new machine and am running into issues.

Background: I ran the installer and it went fine. Booted it up, installed updates, added to domain, etc. After that I started setting up my guest VM but when I go to start it I get 'The hypervisor isn't started' or something similar. Oh right, I forgot to turn on virtualization in the BIOS. However after I turned on the virtualization in the BIOS the host freezes on boot right when the spinning logo starts to appear. I've tried flashing the BIOS and re-installing without any luck.

MB: ASUS M2N32-SLI Deluxe

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 FX-62

Any ideas? The CPU supports virtualization (obviously) and DEP, and as far as I know those are the main requirments for using Hyper-V.

Virtual Switch Will Not Connect

I am on a physical box with Windows Server 2012 R2. All updates have been applied and the Hyper-V role is installed.

My motherboard has four network interface ports. All of which get valid IP addresses from the DHCP server (and have Internet access). When trying to create a virtual switch on one of these NIC's, it doesn't work. Take a look at the screenshots below:

VM Guests stop working on drive with multiple partitions

Hi Everyone

I’m running Hyper-V on Windows 8.1 Enterprise. I have a USB 3.0 external drive connected to my computer with 3 VM Guests configured on 3 partitions. I am experiencing a problem where my VM guests intermittently stop working. It’s almost as if windows regularly scans for drives (similar to when you plug in a USB drive and windows lists the drives on the right hand side of the computer) when this happens, Hyper-V stops accessing the USB drive causing the VM Guests to shut down. From what I can tell, it seems that is from the windows apps part that this is caused. Is there a way that I can disable the “drive scan” so my virtual machines continue running? I have inserted a screen shot below, when the drives are listed my VM Guests stop operating. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Remote-FX vs Radeon R7 240

Hello!

I have a PC with AMD Radeon R7 240 GPU running Windows Server 2012R2.

I know that officially supported only AMD FirePro cards, but a few years ago I successfully run RemoteFX on GeForce 210 & Windows Server 2008R2.

Is it possible to make Radeon R7 240 GPU works with VDI in 2012R2?

Thank's!

cannot get port forwarding to work - what am I doing wrong?

Hi All,

I am sure I am doing something wrong, but can't see what.   All I need to be able to do is to port forward to one of my virtual machines web port on my file server.

So, scenario is:

Windows 2012 R2 Server.    IP address: 10.0.0.2      I have a VM running on there called spatial - it's IP address is 10.0.0.17

Before moving to Windows 2012 R2 server and virtualization - I had multiple servers and to port forward, simply changed the listening port of IIS to another port from standard - say 81.  Then in my router, port forwarded web traffic to port 81 on that server - worked like a charm.

Now however, when I have tried to do the same thing (10.0.0.17 web server listens on port 81) - the page times out.  If I leave it at port 80 - the server2012 IIS page answers.

I guess I need to create some sort of gateway on the 2012 server to allow traffic to flow through to port 81 on the VM - but not sure how to?  Can anyone help?  Is there a simple walk through guide someone has written in order to achieve this - as I am sure is a very common request.  I have googled, but can't find exactly what I am looking for.

thanks.

Hyper-v manager show error "you might not have permission to perform this task"

Backgroud:

I installed windows 2008 enterprise server core(hostname: CNSVC08) in VMware workstation 10. VMware workstation 10 was installed in my host windows 7. Also, I have installed Hyper-V manager in the windows 7. When I try to connect the server CNSVC08 by using hyper-v manager with administrator account (the same username and password as the server core), I got the error "You might not have permission to perform this task"(see below picture)

The windows 7 is joined in the corparation domain. The server core named 'cnsvc08' is not allowed to join the corpation domain. Is there a way to manager VMs by using the host windows 7 in such an enviroment? please help...

Server Performance - Data Copy with VMs very slow

friends.. i am stuck with very odd problem where we have purchased a new server Proliant ML3501 Gen8 and done an normal installation of Hyper V based on 2012 R2 and its running 3Vms. Resources wise this machine is nice RAM and RAID based HDD. which is the last thing to worry about.

but when i see the performance of these VMs its kind of very slow... I am not able to find out the reason .. for instance.

1. if we are doing copy from one VM to another it is in KBs

2. VM to users in LAN over network >1Mb or KBs

Having said that the performance of host is very good. copying data on the cost is lightning fast. Can some one please share the experiences. I am sure it cant be an issue during the installation or setup because we do this thing every day.

we have shared folders on this server and when users are accessing this folder it is taking hell lot of time to open or close or delete ..copy word or excel file.. so its really very bad.. though the resources gives is best.

Please advise

Thanks

Generation 1 vms pxe boot not working

$

Hi,

I have hyperv r2 hypervisor and installed Citrix provisioning services(PVS) software(vms get OS over network with this software) in one of my vms. I have WDS and MDT configured in my dhcp server. To use the above software, I need to install provisioning services client software in a vm and boot over network. While booting over network, it connects pvs server and then starts normal boot. After login, that client OS will be pushed to a hard disk file on pvs server. We also have to create dhcp scope options 66 and 67 for this. I have set it correctly. 66 is pvs server name and 67 is ARDBP32.bin. I have updated them correctly. This is how it works.

Issues:

1) Now I have created generation 1 vm and when I boot over network by default it goes to my wds. So I have stopped wds service in my server. Now when I boot gen1 vm over network with wdsserver service stopped, it says dhcp server:0.0.0.0. If I start wdsserver service, it gets IP, and contacts wds, starts network boot. This is not I want.

2) If I create generation 2 vm and boot over network with secure boot enabled, it says successfully downloaded ardbp32.bin file, but says boot failed: efi network. failed secure boot verification.

I am attaching screenshots for the above mentioned 1,2 and 3 issues. Can someone please help me here...

Thanks,

Chaitanya.

Windows Server 2012 Login Issue "The User Profile Service service failed the sign-in. User profile cannot be loaded."

$

Whenever I try to login to our Exchange Server, I receive the following error:

"The User Profile Service service failed the sign-in. User profile cannot be loaded."

The issue affects more than one user.

Relevant Info:

Server Version: 2012 Datacenter

Exchange Version: 2013

The Exchange server is virtualized.

What I've tried:

1) Remote Desktop from a workstation on the network

2) Remote Desktop from Virtual Machine Manager

3) Connect via console from Virtual Machine Manager

4) Accessing the server via Computer Management and adding my user account to Allow Login via Remote Desktop

5) Creating a new user account for myself by copying the account of a user who can get in

6) Rebooting

I'd appreciate any suggestions.

How to downgrade the Virtualization Software Version for a particular host

Good morning all:

I'm trying to downgrade the Virtualization Software Version of one 2012 R2 host to match the others. One host is at 6.3.9600.16404. This is the correct running version of the cluster. The incorrect version on one host is 6.3.9600.17120. I would like that version downgraded to 6.3.9600.16404.

Cannot initalise new vm - HyperV core

I'm hoping you may be able to help.

Whilst trying to start a new VM on my lab system, I am getting the "Could not initialize memory, not enough disk space" message when I try and use a new drive to store the hard drive for the OS.

This new drive is a logical partition. It seems to function fine within the usual windows tools, can be browsed, appears in disk manager, etc.

I've assigned Full permissions to "NT VIRTUAL MACHINE\Virtual Machines" and "BUILTIN\Hyper-V Administrators"

The machine creates fine, as do the VHDX files and their permissions seem to match existing machines.

I repeated the same process on a pre-existing logical drive and the machine starts fine.

I've checked memory on the server and it's only 10% used, so it doesn't seem to be the RDP memory problem and the .bin file is created when I start the machine up.

I'm thinking there's something I missed when I created the disk. To do this, I used diskpart in HyperV Server Core command prompt having selected the required disk...

1) create partition logical size=X

2) assign letter = K

3) format fs=ntfs quick

then...

icacls k: /grant "nt virtual.....":(OI)(CI)F

Am I missing something obvious? It does seem specific to the disk.

Hi,

I have installed Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 on a Server and created 10 VM's on it. One of the VM is running very slow.

How to monitor the performance of VM's and the host. Is there a good article or documents where in I can apply the same to my machines and get the details of what is causing the issues.

Thanks
