Hi,
We have implemented Hyper-V in our environment with Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 as host machine and created 10 VM's with .vhdx ( default by create virtual machine wizard).
while creating VM's we have allotted hard disk space as 1024 GB,500 GB ,250GB as one partition(C Drive) and installed OS on that partition. Now the application team has asked for 3 partitions with C(OS) :80 GB , D : 50 GB ,E : 200GB
we can create partitions using the shrink volume feature. Everything is fine till now.
Questions :
1)If the .vhdx hard disk is created with 1TB size ,will that be a fixed size ?
if the VM is partitioning the 1TB into into 2 partitions ... how will the vhdx occupy the space?
2)If i take the first VM which has 1024 GB .vhdx hard disk and create the above partitions max 330GB will be occupied and remaining will be unallocated right ? If the space is unallocated ,will it be useful from physical hard disk point of view?
In future ,if we need more space on C drive or want to create one more partition can we extend the partitions ?
Thank you.
