Cannot Delete Checkpoint

My Hyper-V host is Server 2012 R2.  I have a virtual machine (Server 2012 R2) that has a checkpoint.  When I right-click the checkpoint, there is not the option "Delete checkpoint...".  I need to delete this checkpoint so that it merges with the parent VHDX.  What is the best method for doing this?  I've researched and found where people have exported the checkpoint so that it merges disks, exports the entire VM, and then you import as a new VM.  I don't like this option since I will be creating a new VM and I don't know how the applications on the server will react to that because I've read that the VM will see it as a hardware change.  I've also read about doing a manual merge of the disks by clicking on the 'Edit Disk' button in Hyper-V Manager.  But this has been under the condition of creating another VM.  Is it possible to merge disks while still connected to a VM?
