Failover cluster - do I need virtual switches for storage traffic.

This is a very basic question but just slightly confused as to what does and does not need a virtual switch with a failover cluster setup.

So we have 4 x 1Gbps NICs and we want to use 2 for host management/VM traffic (teamed) and 2 for storage traffic. We obviously need to create an external vswitch for the vm traffic which is fine but it is the storage I am not sure of.

We are going to use iSCSI for the storage on a remote NAS so do I need another vswitch for the storage ?

I think I am just confusing myself in that because the storage is accessed via the network I am thinking you need a virtual switch but is this actually the case or not ?

Many thanks
