Browse Host network shares in Guest

I installed Ubuntu from the Hyper-V gallery a few days ago.  See https://blog.ubuntu.com/2018/09/17/optimised-ubuntu-desktop-images-available-in-microsoft-hyper-v-gallery.

I have a Synology server.  It is discoverable on the network using smb and afp.  On the windows Host, I can access the server's shares via smb simply by going to "network" in windows explorer.  My server appears there.  Similarly, on a bare metal ubuntu machine also on the network, the server name similarly appears through the network discovery features of the file manager.

However, on the ubuntu Guest, the server name does not appear through network discovery.  Trying to connect directly results in the error: "Failed to retrieve share list from server: Connection Refused".

How can I access my synology server's smb shares from the ubuntu guest running under Hyper-V?
