Can you replicate from a 2016 server to a 2012 R2 server?

Hello,

We are about to buy a new host server to replicate with our existing 2012 R2 server.   We don't have the budget to buy 2016 for our existing host.   Anyone know if you can replicate from a 2016 server to a 2012 R2 server?
