We have a Windows server 2012 R2 Standard server which is a host to a Virtual machine. We have configured Windows Server Backup for the host. We have noticed that when the VH server is being backed up snapshots are taken of the VM's, once the backup is complete the merge process begins, unfortunately the merge process is not always carried out and we have to restart the VM for it begin the merge process as they are running from an AVHD rather than VHD. Once the merge process is complete the VM is running from a VHD file as normal.
How do we avoid this from happening or occurring.
