Hyper V switch question , DC's getting IP from router instead of dhcp

Hi Guys and girls

Another hopefully quick question from a newbie.

I have one desktop computer, connected to a router that goes out to the internet.

On desktop I have Windows 8 installed with Hyper V. I've created 3 virtual machines running server 2012.

All 3 virtual machines are using an external switch and one is setup as a DC, other two connected to the domain. However all of my VM's get their IP addresses from the router rather than the DHCP server. I could try setting a static but ideally i'd like to prove the DHCP is assigning addresses correctly by using automatic at first.

The DHCP has a scope created and is activated / authorized.

I want it setup this way so all VM's get their IP's from the DC but can still access the internet. To make this possible would I need to set the router in server options on DHCP (003 router option) ? or would default gateway have to be set to be my router even though it would be on a different subnet / network.

Hopefully you can catch my gist here of what i'm trying to achieve, if its not possible that's fine ill make do.

Thanks in advanced for any help

Anthony
