I got a new Dell server with OEM Windows Server 2012 Std 2 CPU/VM.
So, Windows Server 2012 Std is installed as a HOST on a physical machine.
Now, I need to create a VM and install Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise as a downgrade.
According to Mictosoft Windows Server Licensing I have a right for such a downgrade.
2 Questions are here:
1. Can I downgrade to Windows 2008 R2 Ent and use it on VM only? On Host I would still prefer to leave 2012 St.
2. Windows 2008 R2 Ent should be installed as a clean installation. What product key should I use for it?
Microsoft support team advised to get a downgrade key from Manufacture, because the current one won't work for earlier version. Manufacture (Dell) support advised to use the current key...
