Hi, I'm looking for advice on adding an extended replica to an existing replica setup, here's the existing setup.
2 physical servers at 1 site each running Server 2012 Std with Hyper-V as the only role. 1 physical server running Server 2012 R2 with Hyper-V in a separate datacentre several hundred miles away. Each of the physical non-R2 servers hosts an application server that is replicated to the R2 server.
What I need to do now is upgrade the 2 non-R2 servers to R2 so that I can enable extended replicas, but I need to have each app server have a local replica then the extended replica on the remote server. However what I really want to avoid is having to re-replicate both entire virtual servers.
So my question is: is it possible to do this using the exiting replicas on the remote server to seed the new extended replicas?
Additionally, is it a bad idea/possible to upgrade the non-R2 servers to R2 in place, or would it be better to wipe and start clean? this isn't that much of an issue as i had planned on doing it clean anyway.
Thanks
Iain
