Windows Server 2012 (Domain Controller + VDI)

Hi All,

I'm new to Windows Server 2012, I have a school project to implement a secure environment with the combination of Active Directory user access control and VDI. I installed the AD DC and Hyper-V features but I run into an issue by following a guide provided by Adam Carter in Blain Barton's Blog (Setting Up Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) with Adam Carter–Windows Server Division) to setup VDI, apparently I can't post any link yet:

With an error: "The operation cannot be completed, because the server that you specified requires a restart"

I researched and found this thread: (Install Remote Desktop Services Failed on Windows 2012 Server)

But as I noticed, it requires more licenses for the server while I only have one Windows Server 2012 Datacenter license, and I need to use VDI instead of RDS. Is there any way to get around this? Since I'm only a student and tight on budget.

Also, is there any better implementation suggestion? Or did I miss something? Thank you for your consideration.

Kind Regards.
