I have a Windows XP virtual machine running in Hyper-V on a Windows Server 2008 R2 physical host server.
I connect to the Windows Server 2008 R2 host via Remote Desktop from my Windows 8.1 Pro desktop computer.
In the Windows XP VM I would like to change the password for the local Administrator account. Via Remote Desktop to the physical server, I open a Virtual Machine Connection to the Windows XP virtual machine. Then I hit the "Ctrl+Alt+Delete" button on the Virtual Machine Connection toolbar. I expected this would bring up the Windows XP Security Screen from which I would be able to change the password. However, instead, it just pops open task manager.
I tried using the Hyper-V Manager on my desktop computer to connect to the server, but it does not support the older version of Hyper-V on the server, so I cannot open a Virtual Machine Connection without Remote Desktop in between. I had hoped that without Remote Desktop in between, I might be able to use some of the terminal services keystrokes.
This is clean Windows XP Service Pack 3 with all Windows updates and nothing else and no configuration changes so that I can use it as a template for cloning off other Windows XP VMs. I'd rather not enable Remote Desktop directly on the Windows XP VM, as that is a configuration change.
Does any one know how to change a password in a Windows XP virtual machine in Virtual Machine Connection via Remote Desktop?
