We have Hyper-V host (Windows Server 2012 R2) running a Small Business Server 2011 VM.
When we attempt to run the Hyper-V backup in Windows Server Backup, the SBS2011 always shows as 'offline'. When we run the backup SBS2011 VM goes into a saved state whilst the VSS is taken (screenshot attached).
I'm also seeing this behaviour on an identical Hyper-V host running SBS2011. All other VM's (Windows Server 2008R2, Windows 7, Windows 8, etc.) all run fine.
Microsoft support are looking into this now and they have already established there is no obvious cause and they are now investigating further.
My question is this....
Is anyone running a SBS2011VM on a Windows Server 2012 R2 host? If so, does Windows server backup run without putting the VM into a saved state?
I just want to check that the problem isn't something to do with the SBS2011/Server 2012 R2 combination.
Many thanks.
