Expanding VHD (Boot drive) that has a *.AVHD file as well. What is the safe process ?

Hello All,

I want to expand a 'C:\' boot parition on the VHD [running WIN2008R2].

I see a standard warning message that says - do not edit a virtual hard disk associated with VM that has snapshots.

When I go to the location of this VM (on the CSV volume) , I see two hard disk files.

ABC.VHD

&

ABC_2bas9393_12-32-30-blah-blah.AVHD.

My question is - How do I expand the drive ?

Should I delete all the snapshots and then expand the disk ? [Will I loose all the changes that were made since the begining]

or,

Do I need to first merge .avhd with .vhd ? [what exactly this does ?]

My objective is to - Expand the drive & keep all the snapshosts.
