Make a VM Highly Available without a "copy" operation (2008R2 to 2012R2) ?

Hi all,

We are trying to migrate from a Windows 2008R2 Hyper-V environment to a Windows 2012 R2 Hyper-V Cluster.

The problem is that we would like to make these VM's highly available but the only way that I've found is to migrate the VM and select "Make this highly available.....".

It works fine from a technical point of view but no matter what, it includes a copy operation.

Which is not that great from a time perspective and it will temporarily mean that we need twice the amount of space.

I don't understand why this should be necessary since we can put the VM's on the CSV's from the start.

Even if it's in a down state it's still a copy, not a move.

I may have missed something but haven't found any procedure while searching the net that provides a different solution.

Would be great if there is another option.
