I have a host machine running Server 2008 R2 and two Hyper-V VM's (Server 2008 R2) on dedicated drives. Each drive is a 10k SAS drive. The only thing on those drives is the VM information and the VHD (fixed size). The VM's crash regularly with a anywhere
from 8 hours to 6-7 days with a Kernel Event ID 41 and NO codes or BugCheck information (similar to Scenario 3 listed here in KB 202850.
Both of the VM's use the stock drivers that were installed with the OS. The host uses only drivers that were installed with the OS or WHQL drivers provided via Windows Update.
One VM simply runs (it has nothing installed, it is essentially empty), the other hosts an IIS 7.5 webserver.
The host is a relatively new Dell R620.
The host stays perfectly stable, running 24/7. The only time it ever restarts is for regular planned maintenance. The event logs on the host have no entries that would suggest any problems with the VM's.
All hardware on the host has been run through diagnoostic checks, and everything is working properly.
What are some things I should be looking at to diagnose this problem? It's driving me crazy trying to track down a phantom "off switch" that keeps getting mashed.
