Hi,
Please bare with me .. After reading many blogs, articles on snapshots.. few say it is not recommended to take snapshots and so on ..I have many doubts on this snapshot feature. ... so coming back to the expert gurus
we would like to take snapshots of some of our guest VM's.
Host OS : Hyper-V Server 2012 R2
Guest OS : windows Server 2008 R2 SP1
VMM Version : 6.3.9600
I don't see the snapshot option in this version of VMM..but I can see checkpoint option ...this is the snapshot option right ?
does the snapshot and checkpoint perform the same action ?
for creating the snapshot/checkpoint is it better to shutdown the VM or can we take it while the guest VM is running (guest VM has SAP/Exchange application running on it).
while I was checking on few threads, they say snapshot will be created in the same directory where the VHDX file is located .. can we create the snapshot in a different location ? which is the recommended one?
What would be size of snapshot/checkpoint file after creating one? will it be the same as the the VM ?
We have planned for a backup solution for hyper-v but yet to implement. As a requirement for one of the server to go live ,to be on safer side we would like to take snapshot of that VM.
Could you please explain me about the merge process, does all scenario need the merge process. How this works ?
Thanks for reading this thread. Thanks again
